What is Gua sha?

Gua sha is a natural, alternative therapy that involves rubbing or scraping of the skin to improve circulation. It is an ancient Chinese technique that can be used to improve health and address chronic pain.

With the help of soft edge instruments (Gua sha tools), scrapping the skin with short or long strokes to stimulate circulation which increases blood flood to specific areas. It can be used with or without lotion depending on the indication of the treatment.

Gua sha is intended to address stagnant energy or scar tissue. Some may say that it is related to inflammation associated with chronic pain. Rubbing or scrapping the skin is thought to help break this energy to reduce inflammation and promote healing.
